Daniel Bogers : You can show in a video how you work in practice with the light filters. So adjusting, for example, a cold white LED to a warm color temperature that you set as your goal. That as a result you get a filter number to use.
Loud&Clear : Great video, thanks! I just bought this tool, and wow, what a lot to learn. So, dumb question...when I measure a light source, and lets say it measures 5600K and has a CCi value of .1M. Does that mean I need to ADD magenta to get it neutral at 5600K, or it has measured too much magenta by .1 already, and therefore I need to add green? And what exactly does .1 mean anyway.... .1 of what? lol Sorry for the dumb questions. ;)
firstthingsfirst88 : Im trying to shoot a screen for a job soon and im wondering how much the color correction helped bring out the vibrance/sharpness on the screen for this video you made. And thanks for making it easier to understand this device!
G. G. : I would like to see more about WB correction page. I wonder if this device is useful if you only use your camera - no lights. Can you calibrate this device to your camera so you always get perfect white balance?
Andrzej Artymowicz : Does it work with HSS (high speed sync) flash faster than 1/250s?

In this video, we will guide you through setting up your Sekonic C-800 Spectromaster meter, and give you a brief overview of its basic functions.

______

\rWelcome to the Sekonic C-800 SpectroMaster Quick Start Video Series. \r\rThe quest for lighter, smaller and more efficient light sources has creating new challenges in color quality control and interpretation of color for various CINE and Video productions.\r\r Matching the same and different light sources and knowing how to mix LED, Plasma, Tungsten and Daylight are essential for today’s CINE and Video production.\r\r
Sekonic Corporation a light measurement leader for over 6 decades is proud to provide its newest measurement tool that is designed to help you control the quality of light in any demanding lighting scenario.\r The New SEKONIC SpectroMaster C-800 is a portable handheld spectrometer designed especially for CINE, Video, and Still Photography use. It measures every light source such as LED, Fluorescent, Tungsten, HMI, Natural Light and even electronic flash.\r\rUtilizing Sekonic’s CMOS Linear image sensor design especially and specifically developed software, the C-800 can measure and display the spectrum of every light source with the precision and data display that you need.\r\rIn the videos that follows, we’ll help you set-up your spectrometer, guide you through the basics of color measurements, and even show you a few advanced features and functions.\rLet’s get started\r\rIn this first video, you’ll learn how to get your C-800 up and running and get a brief overview of its basic functions.\r\r\rLet’s take a quick tour of the \rSekonic C-800.\r\rWith its user friendly design the C-800 SpectroMaster has a swivel measuring head that rotates 270 degrees and incorporates the CMOS Linear Sensor. \r\rIn addition, the Light Receptor includes a Light Selection Ring that provides settings for CAL , Sun/Flash Icon and Flash /H Icon. \r\r\rMoving down the meter you’ll notice the large 4.3” LCD Color Touch Screen make it a breeze to navigate though all major functions.\r\rFrom the LCD screen let’s move to the POWER Button located on the left side of the meter, which turns the meter on or off.\r\rDirectly below the POWER Button is the MEMORY button. The MEMORY button when pressed in the proper mode stores up to 99 measured values for recall and review later.\r\rMemory titles can be edited in the C-800 Utility Software included. In addition, memorized values can be saved between the meter and computer easily.\r\rOn the opposite side of the meter is the MEASURE button, which when pressed takes the current measurement of the light source.\r\r\rJust below the LCD screen you will notice the MENU button. This button always returns you to the DISPLAY MODE SELECTION screen.\r\r\rLocated on the bottom of the meter are two hidden connectors. The first is the PC Flash Terminal for use with Electronic studio strobes. \r\rThe second connector is a MINI-B USB port for connection to a computer for firmware update and application software.\r\r\rOn the backside of the C-800 is a convenient ¼-20 threaded socket to attach various mounting solutions.\r\rBelow the mounting socket is the battery compartment, which accommodates the batteries.\rFirst, let’s install the batteries...\r\r...simply slide the battery door lock in the direction of the arrow and lift the battery cover on the back of the meter and insert the batteries. The C-800 takes two AA batteries. \r\rBefore powering on the C-800, rotate the Light Selection Ring, so that it is aligned with CAL (Dark Calibration position). Press and hold the power button until the screen displays the Sekonic logo start-up screen followed by the Dark Calibration in progress bar. The spectrometer is ready to use when the Display Mode Selection screen is displayed. \r\rBefore we start measuring with the C-800 it’s very important to turn the Light Selection Ring to either Low or High Ambient /Flash Range. For most applications, we can select Low Range.\r\rContinuing our tour let’s take a look at the STATUS BAR……\r\r\rThe STATUS BAR remains nested on the top area of most screens. Now let’s take a look at the DISPLAY MODE SELECTIONS\r\rYou can select one of the display modes by touching one of the icons on the screen. \rThere are 12 different icons you can choose. Let’s start with the TEXT icon first.\r\rAfter touching the TEXT icon, the C-800 displays the Measuring Screen.\r\rFor your reference, you will notice that touch-enabled Icons always have a blue illuminated line below the icon. If an icon doesn’t have the blue illuminated line it is touch disabled.\rThere are three different measuring modes. To change the Measuring Mode, touch the Measuring Mode icon in the upper left hand corner. \r\rOn this screen you can select:\r\r➢ Ambient Mode\r➢ Cordless Flash Mode\r➢ Cord (PC) Flash Mode\r\rOnce you have made a selection touch the OK button and the screen will return to the Measuring Screen.

Scott Leslie : Great video! When are the next segments coming out? I can't find them on your channel.
murto_photo : Thanks a lot, iam patiently waiting for your next video
waynemansell1 : @Sekonic
Fabulous bit of Kit. Alas, as a C700 owner I'm feeling my nose a bit out of joint. The lifespan of the C700 was very short for such an expensive piece of kit, and no upgrade path available! www.lightinggaffer.co.uk
Travis Duncan Photography : Just following up from Scott's comment ... when can we expect the new video segments for the C-800?
Las Terrenas TV : Hi, can the C-800 can works as light meter? Thanks

Do You Need a Color Meter? Sekonic C-800 Review

Color in video and photo is important. We all know that. The Sekonic C-800 will definitely up your game without any guessing or wondering on your end, but is it worth it?
In this video I go over the different light quality ratings like CRI, TLCI and SSI and explain how the C-800 can not only provide detailed information, but give advice on how to fix problems that show up.

Michal Walks : I do so much appreciate the Sekonic C800, and it comes in especially handy now that lots of us are looking at using RGB(WW) LED panels. What I like to use it for is to replicate lighting that I come across such as a particular colour cast by the sun, or when I am outside and the colours have a certain look I'd like to mimic later. I will meter the scene and then dial it into my RGB LED lights from the data the C800 gave me. It also allows me to make matching lights just so much easier, including studio lighting and even gels over practicals. I am really new at video-making, but this is one investment that I don't regret. One thing I notice across lighting is the R9 values are abysmal on almost every practical LED/Fluro light I come across (except high-quality lights specifically made for filming)...
Technically it's awesome, but I only was a bit surprised it was still using mini B USB, would have been so much better to use USB-C as I have no other devices with this older-style cable requirement. My second suggestion would have been to integrate bluetooth into the device to communicate to other devices such as when I upload data into my PC.
D T : I shoot product/furniture, and sometimes get Browns instead of Greys in the resulting photos where leather and fabric is present. I'd love to see a walkthrough of how to use to c800 to get accurate results (whether correct during lighting, or photoshop) in such situations.
i alzanki : This is the first time I get to see a helpful video on color meter a tutorial on how to use it depth will be great waiting ❤️
Lillian Yang : So helpful! Thanks!
Jyotirmayshuva : Does Color Meter also measure Light (Exposer) or work as a Light Meter?
